Belinda's Poetry

Whilst We Slumber
by Belinda van Rensburg

Whilst we in sweet and silent slumber
Are dreaming in our beds at night,
Animals in a great number
Exist with no relief in sight.

Bars of cages, built to hold
Them in bondage all their days;
Floors beneath them hard and cold -
What a horrid, awful waste.

Under the waxing/waning moons
They gaze up at God's twinkling stars;
Their precious dreams just shattered ruins
And hope still-born behind steel bars.

All they can do each day is pace,
Up and down their squalid cages;
Of joy in life you'll find no trace
Whilst in their hearts a deadness rages.

In the heat, the cold, the rain,
They live their lives in dark despair;
Can't we see it is insane
To treat them cruelly and unfair?

We've sentenced them to living death,
Robbed of freedom and of being;
Now they live to dread each breath -
Are we looking, but not seeing?

God's creatures born so wild and free
Living at peace with me and you.
Why can't we just let them be?
What makes it difficult to do?

We sleep and dream our pretty dreams
In our nice warm beds;
We don't hear the voiceless screams,
Which echo in their heads.

If I Could
by Belinda van Rensburg

If I could touch the silver stars
And free all creatures behind bars,
I'd sail upon the soft warm winds
And release captured living things.

If I could swim the roaring seas
And speak the language of the trees,
I'd teach all mankind to love more
And to repent from making war.

Though I can't do all these great things,
True hope to lost souls I can bring;
On eagles' wings I'll soar up high
And shout His Message from the sky.

Cherish My Creatures
by Belinda van Rensburg

My Heart overflows with the purest of love
For all My creatures on Earth and above.
From the tiniest bugs to the mightiest beasts;
I know everyone and I know all their needs.
Please cherish My creatures; the big ones and small,
For I love them dearly; each one and all.

Don't
by Belinda van Rensburg

Don't. Don't look at me; it's far too late -
Don't touch me; leave me to my fate;
Hunters roving on the waves
Sending great fish to wat'ry graves,
Cutting our fins now we can't swim;
Can you not see the pain I'm in?

Don't. Don't leave me be; it's not too late -
Don't turn away; don't leave me to my fate;
I am just a little kitten,
Often kicked and often beaten,
Now I lie here in the gutter;
Please don't leave me here to suffer.

Don't. Don't make the Father's creatures cry,
Or let them unnecessarily die;
Look after all those in your care,
And include others everywhere
Who need a home, love, care, a meal,
For animals, like us, can feel.

Our Legacy
by Belinda van Rensburg

When earth and its creatures were perfect and new
God gave it to man to protect and subdue,
But stewards turned into uncaring abusers;
Now all life on this planet are victims and losers.

Forests cut down, murdered and burning,
Causing black smoke, bubbling and churning;
Fossil fuels unearthed and abused,
Planet earth's bounty by man misused.

"Oh, no! Gas costs so much these days,
But let's use too much of it anyway."
Killing our planet for convenience and fun,
Until there's nowhere to hide or to run.

Atomic fallout and acid rain:
Destroying our crops and our babes are born maimed.
The screams of our planet echo in deep space -
Is that the great legacy of our race?

Let's change earth's fate and not violate
Its abundant resources before it's too late;
Prevent hunger, destruction and hell on earth,
For generations to come still awaiting their birth.

After the Rain
by Belinda van Rensburg

The storm has passed and the sun's come out;
The birds are flitting and flying about;
Butterflies dancing around in the air
And tiny black ants run from here to there.

Oh God, You gave us a beautiful place
In which to live while we're seeking Your Face;
A green garden grown from billions of seeds
Meant to supply in abundance our needs.

It's sad to see what we've done to our home -
Few creatures are left who can still freely roam
In the wild open spaces as You have intended,
For largely useless their space has been rendered.

Cattle are grazing where they should not be
And we're harvesting far too much fish from the sea;
Pollution, erosion and deforestation -
Causing our planet immense devastation.

Look at the sky: it's soaked through with fog
Forcing all creatures to breathe toxic smog.
Where are the white clouds, the blue sky and fresh air?
What humans are doing to Earth is unfair.

The rain has washed and cleansed the sky
And I look at the creatures who happily fly
Around and around as they frolic and play
Without a care on this glorious day.

Tonight I'll be able to gaze at the stars;
Perhaps if I'm lucky I might even see Mars,
But usually when the sky's foggy and gray
I'd much rather stay in my house the whole day.

GUEST POEM

Sorry
by Jayne McDonough

When the ice melts
And the rivers and seas
Weep heavy, toxic tears.

When the clear skies
Have been burnt away
As You watch in sorrow.

When the parched earth
Gasps its' last breath,
Green forever turns to brown.

When greed consumes the world
As we gorge ourselves
To death..while others starve.

When what was once beautiful
Withers in lifeless defeat
And can be violated no more.

When nature screams out
In final, lonely despair
And no-one is left to say....
Sorry
